“Bless the beasts and the children, for in this world they have no voice, they have no choice”
The lyrics to this song are from a film where teenagers crusade to save penned in buffalo from a rifle club’s slaughter. I saw this film as a child and never forgot this film or the song. Heart wrenching. At some point though I realize I must have forgotten I went on not making humane choices in my daily life, not realizing what I was supporting with my presence at say a circus, or a petting zoo, or consuming factory farmed meat. I woke up one day though after seeing a Go Veg ad – it struck me that day. For most of my life I have been very interested in healthy eating, eating whole foods, eating organically. Had my own organic farm for a short while, but I still ate meat at home and out at restaurants. I decided on my birthday that year that I was done. Since then I am a vegetarian, near vegan. There is one thing nearly everyone in the country agrees on – and that is that they love animals and wouldn’t hurt an animal. With that, truly think about the choices you’re making, who your hard earned money is going to. Would you skin an animal alive simply to line the hood of your jacket? Would you force feed a goose, keep it from natural light, the water, all that is natural, so you can harvest it’s liver so you can spread it on a cracker? If you can’t imagine doing these things yourself, than don’t give someone else your money to inflict this kind of suffering on a animal for you. Think and act humanely, everyday.
